Xiaomi plans R&D centre in India

Xiaomi is now focused on streamlining production at the backend in China to ensure a steady supply of devices.

Xiaomi, China's largest handset maker which has created a stir with its flash sales strategy, has identified India as a key market and said it plans to set up an R&D and design centre in Bangalore that will focus on customising devices for local consumers.

"In the next 12 months, we want to have built a significant presence here," Hugo Barra, vice-president for international operations at Xiaomi, . "We want to have an R&D centre with an actual engineering team with designers, product managers and software engineers, who will build features for the Indian market within India, not just localise features." Barra, 37, joined Xiaomi in 2013 after a five-year stint at Google, including some time at its Android unit.

Xiaomi Mi3 cases and power-banks on Flipkart; no registration required

The much-awaited Mi Power Banks will go on sale in India via Flipkart next week, said Manu Jain, Xiaomi's India head, during a conversation with IBNLive. Two variants of Xiaomi Mi Power Bank, are currently listed on Flipkart as "coming soon."
Though there are other online websites selling the Xiaomi Power Banks, the company is officially making them available via Flipkart in India.

Clearing the confusion whether the Xiaomi power banks would also require pre-registration like the much-discussed Xiaomi Mi 3 smartphone, Jain said that because the power banks are categorised as accessories, they would be directly available on sale and prospective buyers would not need to go through any registration process.

The accessories showcased here included the much talked about Xiaomi Mi Power Bank, Mi headphones and Mi Key as well. While company VP Hugo Barra had said that the Mi Key would most probably not be made available in India,

Xiaomi India Teases Redmi 1S Launch

The stage is set, decks have been cleared and Xiaomi is ready to bring its next eye-catching device to the Indian market. Xiaomi at the Mi 3 flagship launch had unveiled the Redmi 1S and Redmi Note, priced at Rs. 6,999 and Rs. 9,999. At the time, Xiaomi had said the smartphones are 'coming soon', with the Redmi 1S scheduled for an early August arrival, and Redmi Note for a late August entry into the Indian market.
