According to the Times of India report, Xiaomi’s Global Vice President, Hugo Barra revealed in a press conference that the current conditions make it impossible for the company to manufacture a sub-Rs. 5,000 smartphone that can also deliver a good consumer experience. Barra said, “You should get more out of a Rs. 6,000 smartphone and we’ve tried to deliver that experience but getting it below Rs. 6,000 looks difficult at the moment.” Xiaomi devices are known to be priced just a little over the total cost of the components. To keep costs low, they don’t have any physical retail outlets, but rely on online retailers and social media for getting the word out and selling products online. Further cuts in the cost of smartphones would hurt the company’s profits even more. Despite being the third-largest smartphone vendor in the world, Chinese securities filings show that Xiaomi had made a profit of just $56.15 million out of the $4.30 billion it earned in revenue in 2013. Reports also suggest that Xiaomi smartphone sales grew over 20 percent in the July-September quarter, 2014. The Xiaomi VP has expressed plans of investing in Indian start-ups across different areas, including language projects. Not only is he looking to partner with app developers but also intends to look for projects, which can be integrated with the handset’s customised Android OS – MIUI.</div>

The Xiaomi Redmi 2S has appeared on both TENAA and AnTuTu, giving us a pretty good look at its new specs. There has been no official announcement from Xiaomi as yet. However, media reports state that Redmi 2S will be available in colours like black, white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. The Redmi 2S smartphone is speculated to launch in March 2015. The new model will be more compact (134 x 67.2 x 9.2mm vs. 137 x 69 x 9.9mm) and lighter (134g vs. 159g) while retaining the 4.7" 720p screen. Other than the slimmer bezels, the back has been reworked a bit (the LED flash moved to the left of the camera) and that's about it for exterior changes. The capacitive keys below the display have been retained. The Redmi 2S will come with newer MIUI software that's based on Android 4.4.4 (the 1S uses Android 4.3 as a base). The chipset has been switched from a Snapdragon 400 to a 410. That means the Cortex-A7 cores give way to 64-bit capable Cortex-A53 cores, but the clock speed drops from 1.6GHz to 1.2GHz and the newer architecture won't make up for that. The front-facing camera got a small bump to 2MP. Another small bump is to the battery, now at 2,200mAh. The connectivity on the new Xiaomi Redmi 2S will feature LTE by default. It also brings Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. TENAA indicates this is a single-SIM device unlike the Redmi 1S, which is a dual-SIM. This doesn't preclude a dual-SIM option though. Rumors indicate that Xiaomi is working on the sequel to the Redmi Note as well. However, what is good about Xiaomi is that it permits you to have your phone rooted without being guilty about warranty void (thus the dev roms) - Rooting your phone will save your battery life 3x as much if done correctly.Some great apps would be: Greenify (very very helpful!), Titanium Backup (to freeze apps and bloatware), and CPU TUNER (Not sure if this works at the moment; but this is at kernel level saving for the battery buffs)</div> <div align="left" style="word-wrap: break-word;">Now I am aware that probably most of us wouldn't like to have our phone rooted at all costs or just simply want to stick to STABLE ROMs...that's fine and don't worry about it. It might not be as effective as having a rooted phone, but these tips will definitely help save your battery:</div> <div align="left" style="word-wrap: break-word;">- NEVER INSTALL BATTERY SAVERS. THEY ACTUALLY DO THE OPPOSITE.  - Turn off location services when not in use - Turn off sync services when not in use - Always put your phone on conserve mode  - Try to play with the battery management feature if you are a heavy user - Good practice: let your phone discharge til 20% then charge only until 95%. (this does not save battery juice, but rather saves the battery cycles that you can have at your disposal)</div><div align="left" style="word-wrap: break-word;">- Battery calibration: how it helps you to not be too obsessive compulsive about battery drain - Regularly use the CLEANER side by side Greenify (update: it works sorta like the root version already). (long press left button of the home button then press the broom icon; on MIUI 6, one press of the left button will take you there)</div> <div align="left" style="word-wrap: break-word;">I will update this once I find new things to share. Below are my Screen On Time stats with remaining 42% juice when I had my MIUI V5 4.8.15 before. Search the net for safe apps to freeze or simply choose apps available in your drawer like MiCloud (when not in use) to freeze. This also helps performance (try it out with Antutu) </div></div>
